What is Myofascial Release?
Fascia is the medical term for connective tissue. It's the internal spider web-like system of membranes which surrounds all your body's organs, bone, muscles, skin, etc. It connects & supports everything in your body. If the fascia becomes twisted, scarred down, or too tight, it can exert up to 2,000 pounds per square inch of force compressing pain sensitive structures such as nerves, blood vessels, joints, ligaments, & tendons.
how can myofascial release help?
By putting the body's tissues on gentle stretch, a trained practitioner can feel the location of restrictions in fascia. By moving her hands in the direction of least resistance, she can 'unwind' the blockage & allow better fluid circulation as well as release of restriction on painful, sensitive structures. About Janis
Janis Sherer Ballard, MPT
Janis has a BA in physical education from University of California, Berkeley and a master's degree in physical therapy from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA. Janis is a master practitioner in John Barnes' myofascial release technique completing over 15 courses of advanced course work.
Janis has practiced in the Bradenton area of Florida since 1996. She also works as an acute care physical therapist at Lakewood Ranch Hospital treating inpatient hospital patients. Tranquil Touch is a cash pay company. We DO NOT TAKE INSURANCE at this time but we do participate in Zelle.
